Boost to Health - Raw Vegan - Part 2

Yesterday, I have completed my 11 days of raw vegan and I am absolutely fit and fine. Experientially, I have stopped having any sensation of hunger. Even if I do not eat, my body is not demanding much of calories but that is also true that I am not putting myself to any physically demanding activity.

Since last two days I am not eating much (hardly 200 calories a day), it is not that I do not want to eat, it is simply that I am not feeling any craving or temptation towards food, in fact, the regular food cooked at home is making me feel as if it is too heavy. Just for experiment sake, yesterday I decided to give myself a physical test so went for an outing. Went to Delhi Haat where it was a last day of annual fare, Shishir Saras Mela. As I am art lover also so collected come pieces of art work and walked around for almost 4 hours which includes walks for catching Metro. By the end of the day, I did not feel any exhaustion and was perfectly fine. In afternoon, had some fruits not more 50 calories in total.

My learning and experience

Some visible differences which I can feel are, my skin is glowing and have lost 3 kg of weight.Internally, feeling very light and not sleepy or lethargic during afternoons which usually happen after having regular food.

Overall, my experience tells me that we eat food more by habit than requirement. We really feel famish only either when we are in stress or physically exhausted. Having food at a particular time sets the body clock which demands food at the same time and this might not be due to real hunger but simply an alarm of body to look for food or do the food related activity at a particular time. Our digestive juices in stomach also follows this alarm and get their secretion done which actually gives us a feeling of hunger, but again this does not indicate that we are really hungry and it is simply a response to an alarm.

In today's date, if you put any lip smacking dishes in front of me, I will have absolutely no craving to have that. It convinces me that I am a conscious eater and really food cannot make me weak. My will power has got strengthened and not feeling any compulsion to eat.

Warning

Those of you who find Raw Vegan diet quite tempting to follow from point of view of losing weight, I earnestly urge you to consult your physician and dietician first, especially if you are diabetic or suffering any other illness. Based on his/her recommendation only you must get started on this diet. In my case, since I have no such health problem and have better than average knowledge about food and health, so following this is not a challenge or any risk.

So, what next?

After following 11 days of raw vegan the most important question is "what is my direction and goal to maintain my ideal weight and other vital parameters of health?". Since I first followed raw vegan in 2011, my breakfast is fully raw vegan which means one meal out of three is healthy, now my next goal is to have only two full meals a day which means breakfast and dinner, planning to skip lunch, altogether, if at all feeling hungry I will have only fruit or light salad. I am not sure, how hard or easy it will be but want to incorporate it because I feel, I take unnecessary calories during lunch which makes me lethargic and sleepy. In my opinion, it is important to eat healthy and less than eating timely to comply with routine.

I have decided to implement this from next week since my body has stopped giving afternoon alarm, so this will prove quite advantageous to me in incorporating new regime. Let's see how successful I would be in following new eating regime.

Water Fasting

To make it a 15 days of celebrating health and fitness, today, I have started my water fasting and it is day 1 today, so far so good. It is only my habit of looking for food in afternoon which is making me feel that something to eat is expected but there is no real hunger. Drinking lot of water, not feeling any drop in energy level but I am trying to work in an energy saving mode which means not speaking much and not climbing stairs or going out for a walk.
