Boost to health - Raw Vegan - Part 1

23, Feb, 2013, by Seema Bhatnagar

Nature is at her peak, cladded in infinite colors and it is a perfect feast to eyes looking around. The colorful flowers, green buds and leaves are sprouting to breathe more life to tree and birds. It is simply that everything is sounding health and beauty around. As I am a staunch nature lover, I love every expression of nature and want to enjoy it with full exuberance.

February is generally a month of love for millions but for me it is a month of health and fitness. Being a health conscious person, I feel health is indeed a real wealth and one must keep this wealth with utmost care and responsibility. Sometimes even a simple headache make you to dislike everything in the world.Pitiful, isn't it?

As you know, last few months have been the months of celebrations of festivals, new-year parties and get togethers, I guess, almost for everyone. Parties and celebrations make you to eat unhealthy stuff which results in putting on extra kgs. Every year this pattern remains same, so it made me to decide about including some strong measures to control diet before those extra kgs becomes a part of my body. February is a month when things are silent with excellent weather and market is full of seasonal vegetables and fruits. So this made me to choose February as a month to celebrate health and fitness. Since last two years I have been practicing a body cleansing regime by following Raw Vegan diet and water fasting. The very first year 2011, when I started it, I lost 6 kg in 10 days and I was really amazed at the result and this made me to follow it every year. Since then I am able to maintain my ideal weight. Following this regime, this year too I have started my 15 days of raw vegan and water fasting. Those of you who are interested in reading my experience can check out my last year experience.

Raw vegan is a diet which recommends raw (uncooked) products which are derived from nature and nothing to be included which has animal as a source. That means fruits, vegetables, nuts, sprouted beans or any extract from plants and no dairy products, honey and no regular cooked food at home.

It is not that on other days I am devouring rather I am a conscious eater. Since last many years (almost 10) I have become a conscious eater and paying special attention to my diet. Even if I had been a conscious eater before but I was not able to shed my extra pounds and it is only with Raw Vegan diet that I could achieve my goal to attain my ideal weight. The objective behind shedding weight was not to become more appealing and beautiful but it was more of a health reason. I realized that having extra weight means there is an imminent risk of developing diabetes, blood pressure and knee pain. Really, I do not want to suffer from diseases which I can keep away easily with some conscious efforts. I would rather prefer to have healthy food then popping pills before and after going to bed.

It is my personal resolution to maintain the same health and stamina till 80 years of age (provided no accidental death happens) or till I am alive. My current stamina allows me to work 16 hours a day without getting physically exhausted and it is mainly due to my diet. It is my strong belief that if I do not enjoy good health then I cannot avail the best opportunities in life which means not growing at all. Since I am continuously investing on my health so I am sure I would be able to achieve the goal of maintaining excellent health till old age. You might find it really crazy but the same confidence has made me to develop disliking for health insurances. In today's date I do not have any cover and I am regularly rather every day investing on my health. I believe, it is better to invest on health every day than paying premium once a year.

Today, it is my sixth day of raw vegan and I am feeling absolutely energetic and normal. Check out some pics of salads and dishes which I am enjoying during Raw Vegan diet.

On completing 11 days of raw vegan, I will follow water fasting for four days, which means completely on water. This is because my body is completely on low calories mode and will not feel any hunger even if there is no food for few days. Four days is a minimum duration which one should follow to get benefits of water fasting. Will see, if I am able to maintain my energy levels, will continue for longer duration.

Will keep you posted with updates on raw vegan and water fasting.

In another health experiment which I attempted this winter is, using cold water for bathing purpose. Interestingly, this winter, Delhi has experienced abnormally low temperature and this gave me good opportunity to test my limits. I have not used hot water for bathing purpose even for a single day throughout this winter season. Contrary to popular belief that one would suffer cold and fever, I enjoyed a perfect health throughout the winter. I wanted to do this to enhance my will power and endurance. Overall, it came out as an excellent experience and probably it has made me healthier in some way. Another brighter side of it is, there is one more item is struck out from my list of needs for life.

In next post, I will share my experience about spiritual growth which I have attained recently. Stay tuned
