Happy Children's Day14, Nov, 2013, by Seema Bhatnagar
Children's day - a day dedicated to children for celebration of childhood and to promote their welfare. With discretion of United Nations in 1954, internationally, Nov 20th, is recognized as a Universal Children's day. However, different countries celebrate it on different dates, in India; it is celebrated on November 14. November 14, is specifically chosen for this day because it is also a birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister after India became free from British rule in the year 1947. He was very fond of children and had a special love for them and always thought children plays a key role towards the future of a country. Children fondly called him 'Chacha' Nehru (Chacha is a hindi word for a relationship, to be used by children to address father's younger brother.).
This day is marked with celebration all over the country in schools and children welfare institutes. Celebrations include speeches from inspiring leaders and eminent personalities, fun and frolic activities in schools which includes dramas and plays, to demonstrate the importance of personal values.
Parents and teachers play a very significant role in shaping the thinking and mindsets of children.
Our great country needs great people full of wisdom and intellect.
Personally, I also feel that children are future of any country and we must encourage them to explore their full potential in life. I get this feeling, because I remember my own beautiful childhood and all the opportunities given to me. Only the education and continuous support of some excellent teachers, parents, siblings, leaders, friends and people have enabled me to reach at this point where I am enjoying personal happiness as a grounded individual. My every interaction, good or bad, has shaped my thought and mindset and helped me to become a better individual. I am extremely grateful for their patience to bear my immaturity and acts of nonsense and irresponsibility.
I deeply desire and strongly wish that no child should remain illiterate and must get the best possible childhood under the warmth of parents, siblings and valuable teachers because a happy childhood blooms into a healthy and mature individual which affects the society overall, that means people like you and I.
For a better Tomorrow
To have a better tomorrow for our country, where people knows only love and happiness, which actually our heritage also speaks loud of, we must provide an education that opens up mind and intellect to experience a new horizon of thinking. Parents and teachers play a very significant role in shaping the thinking and mindsets of children. Our great country needs great people full of wisdom and intellect.
In today's world, where children are exposed to all varieties of inputs which are not appropriate to their age, it is more than ever essential that we ensure our 100% attention to them and do not let their innocence die soon. Encourage your children to read more books than watching cheap comedy serials or watching substandard movies, make them to talk to inspiring people than fighting over trivial issues, educate them about the importance of personal values and how s/he can contribute in the society by simply being excellent in personal conduct. Instead of providing luxuries, teach them the value of earning and deserving. The best you can do to your child is to demonstrate these values yourself, so that it becomes easier for him/her to follow.
If you are a parent or a teacher, you actually can make significant difference and contribute to society by raising a child who understand the importance of personal values and who knows how to respect others and values others despite varied differences.
Wishing all children a very Happy Children's day. May all children of our country get the best loving, caring, healthy and warm childhood. May they all develop strength to achieve and live the best of potential and lead our country to a new golden future. With peace and love.
